Checo Hill is our home, guesthouse and farm in the hills of Cayo District near to the Mountain Pine Ridge. We are located on the outskirts of the village of Seven Miles / El Progresso, a small farming community.
We offer bed and breakfast accommodation, a self-catering kitchen, meals on request and a variety of activities in the surrounding area and wider Cayo District.
To turn on to our land, we used to have to go through a big drainage ditch, which meant that we were never sure whether or not we would be able to drive in, depending on how much it had rained. We put off fixing the problem for as long as we could, but one day the government machines were working on the road outside our house, and we realised that we had to take the opportunity while we had it.
They were digging out the ditch, making it even deeper, so we drove onto the road while we still could, hurried out to buy 20 feet of culvert pipe, and asked the men working on the road very nicely if they would mind dumping a load of their material over our culvert for us. They very kindly did that, which left us very grateful, but very daunted by the huge amount of material we had to move, with one shovel, an iron bar, and just the two of us.
